San Antonio, TX!

Mary and I made it.  999.6 miles from the driveway of where we stayed in Phoenix to the driveway we arrived at in San Antonio.  But we made it, with only a few stops for gas.  It was the only drive that we've done with any driving occurring after dark.  And Texas is kind of bizarre - they have a daytime speed limit of 80 and a night time speed limit of 65.  We guessed it's because of animals and making sure you don't hit a deer going 80 mph.
In San Antonio we are staying with Mary's brother, Peter.  Yesterday he took us to the San Antonio Riverwalk.  You walk along the San Antonio river underneath all of the streets - I have pictures - it'll make more sense when you see it.  You can also take a little boat tour along the river, and we did that too.  Last night we went to the most amazing adventure ever - the Alamo Drafthouse.
Get this:  it's a movie theatre and a restaurant...all in one.  You buy your admission to the movie and in front of your seat is a little table with a menu and a piece of paper to write down your order.  Then they come around and deliver your food during the movie.  It sounds like it would be distracting - but here's the best part.  You can order beer and beverages with your orders!  It was fantastic getting to watch Get Smart with a pint.  Washington has got to adopt this type of entertainment.
Today we are going to Sea World.  I'm excited.  I've never been.  There will be lots of pictures there I'm sure.  I'll try to get some up tomorrow.

Road Trip - Day Three

This day we only had about a 6 hour drive, so we decided to sleep in a little and play some slots before we left for Phoenix.
Mary is SUPER excited to play on the giant machine - and even though by the end of the morning she was down a little money - she had some big wins on the slots.
I concentrate.  I figure if I visualize winning then I WILL win.
We have come to rely a lot on signs.  This one let us know the right direction.
Unfortunately, when you drive over the top of Hoover Dam, you don't get a Dam good view.

Mary and I are off to San Antonio, AZ tomorrow.  It'll be a long drive, but we'll kill it.

Road Trip - Day Two

On day two we traveled from Twin Falls, ID to Las Vegas, NV.  Neither Mary or I have ever been to Las Vegas before and we were REALLY looking forward to it.  It turned out to be a pretty amazing evening.

The trip took about 9 hours.  And you can see what we were driving through...
Mary and I outside the Bellagio hotel - facing the strip.  The Bellagio fountains were quite the highlight for me.
This is the Dale Chihuley ceiling in the Bellagio hotel.
If I were to go back to Vegas with buckets of money - I'd probably stay here.  It was so pretty!

Unfortunately, after a full day of driving, we were both pretty tired and made it back to the hotel by about 10:30 pm.  But it was necessary to get some rest.

Road Trip - Day 01

Here's the deal.  I thought getting internet access would have been a lot easier than it actually is.  Therefore, we probably will not be able to post every single day.  HOWEVER - Since right now I have internet access, I will post some of the pictures from the last few days.

Here are pics from day one:

This is the start of the trip.

Here are the Shoshone Falls in Twin Falls, ID - Gorgeous!

Here are the lovely ladies with part of the falls in the background.

The drive on day one was really fairly easy.  Mary and I were really excited to get on the road and start our travels.  On the 8 hour drive only about 2 of the hours were on an interstate.  Some of the roads were windy - others were incredibly straight.  But everything was certainly beautiful.

Road Trip!

This was one of the main reasons I decided to create a blog.  Tomorrow I start my road trip to Virginia with Mary Adolfson.  I wanted one place to tell people all about what is going on and the adventures we are sure to encounter along the way.  Thus - this blog.

Here are the planned stops so far:
  • Pullman, WA
  • Twin Falls, ID
  • Las Vegas, NV (First time for both of us!)
  • Phoenix, AZ
  • San Antonio, TX
  • New Orleans, LA
  • Abingdon, VA
  • Quantico Marine Corps Base, VA
  • Arlington, VA
  • Pittsburgh, PA
  • Columbus, OH
...and then some cities on the return home that haven't quite been figured out yet.

It's going to be quite the whirlwind trip and LOTS of driving.  Both Mary and I are up to the challenge and definitely ready for a change of scenery.  Our goal is to post a blog everyday.  Keep on the lookout for pictures too - most people know I'm clicker happy with the camera.

Now I have to come up with a signature "sign-off"...

I needed a test picture to use in my attempt to post pictures on this blog.  Seems like this worked.  It's a good photo...one of my favorites.

There's a first time for everything...

Yeah.  That's right.  I have a blog now.  This is what I see for the future:

  1. Updates about my epic road trip to Virginia during the end of June and beginning of July.
  2. Posts about the crazy life I will lead when finding a job and trying to move out of the state.
  3. A place to tell anyone that wants to read about what's going on.

Sound like a decent plan?  I think so.

Enjoy! :)
